Where I Donated And Why for 2021-22
If this blog post contains a list of my donations but no explanations of why I chose each organisations, or is otherwise weirdly half-finished, it’s because it was showtime and this was all I’d written.
I try to direct my donations to the organisations that will have the most positive impact per dollar, so I thought it would be good to post my choices publicly to make me feel a bit more accountable or something? Also so people could tell me if they think there are better places to be donating (i.e. higher impact per dollar)?
I know there’s a social norm against talking about your donations to charities because it’s seen as bragging, but I think this is a bad norm: if getting to brag makes people donate more then that’s great, more money donated is more money donated!
For the 2021-2022 (Australian) financial year I split my donation between:
34% (USD 374.98/AUD 555) to the Effective Altruism Animal Welfare Fund
33% (USD 363.95/AUD 538.64) to the Happier Lives Institute
33% (USD 363.95/AUD 538.64) to the Founders Pledge Patient Philanthropy Fund
